Practice
Tim Wilson started his creative practice at QCA Gold Coast, studying for a BA in 3D Design. He later found his way into abstract ceramic sculptures, specifically aiming to portray subconscious thoughts and emotions. He showcased a small body of ceramic sculptural works, during his solo show at IMA Gallery Store, Brisbane. Shortly after, he was selected to display sculptural works for Prize No Prize, The Walls, Gold Coast and for Borderlands, M-ARTS Precinct, Murwillumbah. In 2019, Wilson showcased large and medium ceramic and concrete sculptures at a solo show at The Third Quarter Gallery, Brisbane. After a year break from his art practice, he has returned to focus his energy on a new body of work incorporating acrylic paintings and ceramic sculptures.

Wilson’s current practice draws inspiration from many genres of art, with the goal of blurring lines between different styles. Futurism, cubism, pop art and surrealism are a few key inspirations. Wilson’s works are an exploration into meaning. By allowing the form to influence the concept and the concept to influence the form as work progresses, there is reliance on the interpretation of the subconscious mind. The works start to develop meaning whilst they are created with a heavy emphasis on the expression and analysis of emotion within the image. With wide-ranging subject matter popping in from past personal experiences and upbringing to current global events and politics. Along with an underlying philosophy of Wilson’s which sees humans as part viruses to the planet and part gods..
